Six Short Films about Gay First Lust!Doors Cut Down (En Malas Companias)
A school boy hangs around a mall in order to pick up older men and have sex in the public toilets. When his English tutor teaches him anal sex, he is opened up to new experiences despite being caught by his disapproving father. One day he meets a hot and sultry 18 year old, he hits the stalls with him only to be caught by security and charged. What starts as the a tale of bad luck and bad timing turns quickly into a tale of love and a committed relationship. . . well sort of.
Back Room
In the back room of a gay club in Barcelona, the camera stalks the men (privy to their inner thoughts in voice overs), who stalk each other on a typically busy Saturday night
Breakfast? (Fruhstuck?)
Boris is smitten with Til. When the two are about to kiss for the first time an inter-loper joins them, much to Boris' dismay and Til's delight. Will jealousy ruin everything or will it confront Til with his wild ways and the possibility of missing out on true love?
Chicken
Mick and Kev, teen Irish lads, are at the shore, throwing rocks at empty cans, drinking cider. Mick's the pushy one, engaging Kev in a game of mumbly peg, his hand on top of Kev's, fingers splayed. As Mick moves the knife between their fingers, a train is heard approaching, drawing the two closer than they ever been.
Take Out
When a take-out delivery boy becomes obsessed by a usual customer, it forces him to come to terms with his sexuality and desires.
Touch
A boy who goes to sleep in his own bed at the age of eight and wakes up in a bare, dark room. He lives in that room and others like it for eight years, visited from time to time by a man who beats him. When he's finally free, the film follows him, showing how mangled he was by the experience.
These six shorts showed the darker side of gay sex. Doors Cut Down and Back Room have to be the shining films of this lot. It seems that Spain has a grip on the gay short film category. both short films capture the excitement and the fear with gay sex, particularly the anonymous kind. And a naked spanish man is never something to complain about. They stand out as two shining examples of how films can capture the emotions of gay youth, but still tell a story that everyone can relate to.
